Heather Austria

Heather holds an Honours B.A. in Child Psychology. She spent some time living abroad and, while living in Tokyo, used drama to teach English to young children. Shortly after the birth of her son, she was drawn to the simplistic beauty of the Montessori pedagogy and obtained a MACTE-accredited ECE Diploma. She also holds an Elementary Diploma from the Canadian Montessori Teachers Education Institute and has taught Lower Elementary in Montessori schools.

Heather worked as a Casa teacher in Ancaster for over a decade; inspired by her observations of students exploring the woods and by her own love of nature, she studied to become a Forest and Nature School Practitioner.

As our Outdoor Kindergarten Guide, Heather nurtures young learners’ curiosity as their independence, confidence, and lifelong skills develop naturally in all climates.

Kayaking, hiking, and walking her dogs are essential activities to fill her downtime, while Heather also loves spending vacation time in the desert with her beautiful family and sharing the baking skills she acquired in her past life as a pastry chef.
